Yemeni Customs Union Participates in Arab Customs Union Meeting in Tunis

The Yemeni Customs Authority participated in the 40th meeting of the Arab Customs Union Committee, which is held in Tunisia from 30 January to 1 February 2023. Seventeen nations participated.

The customs administration in Yemen was represented by Mohammed Garda, director general of value and chairman of the customs department in the Aden Free Zone, Majed al-Huribi.

The meeting discussed the mechanism of distributing customs proceeds and compensatory mechanisms within the framework of the Arab Customs Union

The mechanism for protecting domestic industry and the mechanism for supporting and encouraging national industry within the framework of the Arab Customs Union

He also discussed flexibility and gradual membership of the Arab Customs Union.

During the meeting, Qarada gave a speech on the role of the Customs Authority in supporting and encouraging local industries in accordance with the relevant national laws and in fulfilling its regional and international obligations, as exemplified by joint Arab and international laws and decisions.

It was also made clear that the mechanism for collecting customs duties should be in the country of final destination of the goods and not in the first port of entry
