Customs Authority Undersecretary Dr. Mohammed Abdu Al-Dahni heads a delegation from the Customs Authority to participate in the tenth meeting on rules of origin, in the presence of Counselor Anwar Zamam, commercial official at our embassy in Cairo, which is held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States. Seventeen Arab countries, members of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, are participating in the meeting.
The General Secretariat is currently taking the necessary measures to hold a joint workshop in coordination with the Union of Arab Chambers and with the participation of representatives of the Qatar Chamber of Arab States and the private sector. The workshop aims to spread awareness among private sector representatives of the importance of applying the principle of accumulation of origin and taking advantage of preferential advantages if applied within the framework of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area.
The agenda also addresses the completion of the review of general provisions of the Arab rules of origin for Arab goods based on the observations and views of the Arab States members of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, which is a permanent item on the agenda of the Committee’s meetings until the final review of the provisions is completed, on the basis of a mandate from the Economic and Social Council for the Committee to review the general provisions of the Arab rules of origin in order to keep them up with international developments and to propose the necessary amendments thereto, in accordance with its resolution 2234 of its 104th session on 5/9/2019, where review of about 80% of the general provisions has been completed and the remaining items will be discussed for submission to the Economic and Social Council for consideration of their adoption.
